miLab

What are materials?
They are what give shape to the world around us.

When materials change, components change.
Products change.
The way we live changes.

Human life has always been updated through materials.
And that will not change.

Materials have the power to shape the future.

That is why we want to support the people who work with materials through digital technology.

Through miLab, we share knowledge and perspectives that support materials development.
Together with everyone involved in the industry, we seek to cultivate the potential of materials.

Shaping the future through materials.

The birth of miLab

As Japan and the international community confront global-scale challenges, the materials industry is also being called upon to transform.

At MI-6, we believe that this transformation will be driven in part by the full use of digital assets through Materials Informatics (MI) and Laboratory Automation (LA).

That is why we launched miLab: a platform for sharing knowledge related to materials development, including MI and LA, and for highlighting the work of researchers at the forefront of innovation.

Through miLab, we aim to share practical, multidimensional insights and examples that support this movement for change.

We aim to bring wider recognition to the achievements and passion of researchers who continue to create value.

We aim to encourage more people to take an interest in the potential of the materials industry, and to join us in shaping the future.

We will continue working to make miLab a meaningful contribution to these goals.

Members

The miLab editorial team is operated by members who are working to bring Materials Informatics into real-world practice. With experience in materials development using MI and in developing MI solutions, we are building miLab as a place where we can share our own knowledge, gather insights from the wider world, and continue learning.

Our aim is to help engineers and researchers discover new perspectives for better manufacturing and materials development.By sharing practical information and creating opportunities for dialogue among engineers and researchers, we seek to foster an exchange of knowledge.

Through this exchange, miLab aims to become a co-creation platform that supports the next generation of manufacturing.

Mitsuru Irie

MI-6 Ltd.Representative Director and CEO

Editor-in-Chief of miLab. Studied bioinformatics at university. After working in businesses and policy initiatives related to data utilisation, he co-founded MI-6 in 2018. He oversees the company’s business, product, and R&D execution.
At miLab, he is responsible for improving the quality of technical articles, maximising the value of content through review, additional writing, and structural refinement. He aims to implement Materials Informatics in society as an innovation platform for next-generation product development, accelerating the creation of new value for civilisation.

Saki Kato

MI-6 Ltd.Executive Officer

Director of miLab. Studied polymer chemistry at university. At a major chemical manufacturer, she worked on the development of display and semiconductor materials, and led the use and organisational deployment of Materials Informatics. She joined MI-6 in 2024 and currently serves as Product Owner.
Drawing on her experience in R&D and the practical use of MI, she is responsible for defining miLab’s direction and planning its content. Through miLab, she seeks to create a place for envisioning the future of materials development, the foundation of the world around us. She hopes to cultivate a future in which a culture of data utilisation takes root in manufacturing sites, supporting both decision-making and creativity.
